Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods
The Russian River Volunteer/Naturalist Interpretive Programs provide docents and naturalists for our youth education programs with several new enlivening enhancements for the upcoming year. Stewards recruits and trains about 400 community members every year, who become candidates to staff our various public education and school programs as docents, volunteers, and seasonal naturalists.
Our environmental education programs serve over 6,000 students annually. Each year we strive to provide enough docents to meet the needs of the schools signed up for our interactive environmental education experiences. State Park docents educate school children about the fascinating intertidal ecosystems, the magnificent old growth redwoods, plus the natural and cultural history in Russian River area State Parks.
Ballet Folklorico
Guerneville School offers Ballet Folklorico dance classes during the Fall & Spring for up to 67 Russian River area children. In addition to the classes, performances are held with elaborate attire reflecting the dance. These classes are enjoyed by all ages, including High School students. The program is maintained through fundraisers, family contributions, and a generous donation from the Russian River Recreation & Park District.
Rockin’ the River
The Russian River Rotary Foundation introduced Rockin’ the River – Community Concerts at the historic Guerneville Plaza, an exciting new summer concert series in the heart of the Russian River resort area. The brick plaza at Guerneville’s town center makes a quaint, picturesque concert venue. These concerts are sponsored by several individuals, businesses, and Russian River Recreation and Parks District.
