The Russian River Recreation & Park District has an opening for a Board member. A board member resigned mid-term. The Board of Directors is comprised of 5 members and meets on the third Wednesday at 7pm of every month at the Russian River Senior Center. In addition, special meetings are called as needed.
The District was created in March 1941 as a county recreation district. The main purpose for creating the district was the installation and operation of two summer dams on the river to create swimming and beach areas. In 1970 the District Board changed from an appointed ( a dependent special district) to an independent special district with a five-member elected board, with each member serving a four-year term. Elections for the Board are held every two years and every registered voter living within District boundaries is eligible to vote. In addition to installing the two summer dams, the District owns and maintains several parks.
The current Board members will appoint the new member at our regular meeting on January 16th, 2019 (open to the public). An election is not required when a member resigns mid-term. Any prospects must reside within the districts boundaries within Guerneville. This is a voluntary position with no stipends or financial benefits. If you are interested in being considered for this position, please submit a letter of intent including a one page bio (must be received by January 10th to be considered) via email at email@example.com. If you do not have email or have any questions please call the district office at 707-869-9184.
